A Smart Shelter, thanks to its unique modular design characteristics, offers a good balance between the requirement for the best technical qualities and the investment required and therefore it is a highly cost efficient product for IT Security Rooms. It allows the client to build for future expansion, but only pay for immediate needs and without compromising any feature of facility of the solution.

A Smart Shelter is a unique modular concept, designed to meet the most exacting international standards possible, including those recommended by the Uptime Institute. All components, assembly processes and quality controls are executed in accordance with the highest international processes and standards (IEC, EN, ISO, DIN, etc).

A Smart Shelter structure offers a wide range of advantages to the user:

A Smart Shelter solution is designed to comply with the following specific technical standards:

  • Temperature Certified according to fire curve as per EN-1047-2 standard (ΔT 50º)
  • Water and dust protection certified IP65 / NEMA 4 according to EN60529 and up to IP67 if required.
  • WK4 intrusion protection according to EN1627
  • Thermal insulation efficiency, acoustic Attenuation, EMC Protection (High and Low Frequency) and up to TEMPEST or EMP conditions if required
  • Mechanical resistance, fire protected walls, 120 minutes, earthquake/seismic resistant.

 

Smart Shelter +

A Smart Shelter + is designed to meet the very exacting requirements of those clients whose needs can only be met by the Tier 3+ standards, as defined by the Telecommunications Infrastructure Association’s TIA 942 Standard for Data Centers. The result is probably the most secure IT Room available today, thanks to the extensive experience and associated R&D involved in the deployment of over 300 data centers world-wide.

A Smart Shelter+ is guaranteed to comply with the most demanding and exacting of requirements, including those recommended by the Uptime Institute. The components used, assembly processes and quality controls are carried out in accordance with the highest international processes and standards (IEC, EN, ISO, DIN, etc).

A Smart Shelter+ structure will comply with the following specific technical standards:

  • Temperature and Humidity Certified by SGS according to fire curve as per EN-1047-2 standard with a certified max ΔT of 12ºC inside the room vs. 1000ºC external
  • Water and dust protection certified IP65 / NEMA 4 according EN60529 and up to IP67 upon request
  • Water tight and burglary protection level WK4 according to EN1627
  • Thermal insulation efficiency, acoustic Attenuation 30dB, EMC Protection (High and Low Frequency) and up to TEMPEST or EMP conditions upon request
  • Mechanical Resistance, fire protected walls, ceiling and door for 120 minutes
  • Earthquake resistant.

 

LC120

A Smart Shelter LC120 structure is aimed at the user who does not require the highly exacting standards offered by the Smart Shelter + yet who still requires a quality solution which meets international standards, but at a lower cost.
An LC120 offers the following general advantages:

  • Kit-Type Shelter installed by any qualified installation crew thus eliminating supervision by an AST project manager. This concept is the ideal solution for locations where local technical skills may be scarce.
  • Modular, energy and cooling efficient
  • Short delivery time and quick installation due to prefabricated components
  • Allows future expansion thanks to its modular design features.
  • Rapid and secure assembly and adaptable to any room dimension
  • Mechanical assembly, clean and dust-free
  • Modular structure allows for component reuse in case of relocation
  • Clean room finishing surface, high mechanical resistance and no need of intermediate columms.

An LC120 structure provides the following technical advantages:

  • Fire protected walls, ceiling and floor for up to120 minutes.
  • Water and Dust protection certified IP65 /NEMA 4 according to EN60529 and up to IPx7 if required.
  • Fire protected elements, 120 minutes: door, cable glands, fire dumper, etc.
  • Thermal Insulation Efficiency. Acoustic Attenuation. EMC Protection (High and Low Frequency) and up to TEMPEST or EMP conditions if required
  • Mechanical Resistance.

 

Smart Shelter Container

The AST Smart Shelter Container (SSC) solution is designed to provide a fully functional Data Center within a range of standard ISO containers with complete infrastructure, including: cooling, power, structural protection, protection against all hazards and hostile environments (deserts, arctic), monitoring, access control, etc. The result is a total plug and play solution within a very secure and mobile environment enclosure, comprising a modular and flexible approach at the lowest PUE.

AST is proud of the fact that IBM has adopted the Smart Shelter Container concept under its brand name of “Portable Modular Data Center”. AST works closely with IBM world-wide to produce the PMDC solution for its customers.

An SSC is capable of accommodating up to 19 conventional racks in a 40’ container with a range of densities starting at 5kW/rack and up to 30 kW/rack (or higher if required) and even mainframes. Racks are installed on AST-patented unique sliding rails which give services engineers easy access to the front and rear of each rack. Each rack is capable of holding up to 1000Kg of equipment.
A range of service containers are offered providing the appropriate power and cooling needs to feed the IT containers. AST can provide SSC solutions in stand-alone or multi-container permutations based on 10’, 20’, 30’, 40’ and 53’ (USA only) ISO containers.

An SSC solution is designed to meet the most exacting and demanding international standards. The components used, assembly processes and quality control are carried out in accordance with the highest international processes, including: IEC, EN, ISO, DIN, etc. If required an SSC can be designed in accordance with both NEMA and IEC specifications.
